As National Waterwatch Facilitator I am pleased to invite you to the 5th National Waterwatch Conference. The conference will be held at the Manning Clark Centre at the Australian National University in Canberra on the 26–29 November 2007.
This theme of this year’s conference is
Sustaining, showcasing, sharing Building on the past, steering towards the future
As the theme suggests, the conference provides an opportunity for the Waterwatch network and its supporters to come together and share its knowledge and experiences. The conference also offers many professional development and networking opportunities. And, most importantly, the conference will provide an opportunity to identify innovative ways in which Waterwatch can respond to the challenges and opportunities arising in natural resource management and sustainability education across Australia.
To lead us into the exchange of ideas, Professor Ian Lowe AO, President of the Australian Conservation Foundation, will provide the opening keynote address. We look forward to Professor Lowe providing inspiration for us to consider how Waterwatch can contribute to addressing the challenges of climate change, the water crisis and other sustainability issues, through hands-on learning and community-based monitoring.
The past few years have been particularly challenging for Waterwatch as we cope with changes in the key policy and program areas within which we operate. In order to build on the considerable successes of Waterwatch over the past 15 years, we need to rise to the challenge of building a sustainable Waterwatch network and ‘community of practice’ that will be in a position to fulfil the needs of a range of educators and natural resource managers into the future.
So as well as coming along to network, have some fun and to share your experiences and perspectives, your participation in this conference will make an important contribution towards steering our Waterwatch network towards a sustainable and bright future.
